Stream Team Clean Up | 2017 Confluence Trash Bash
Hey Community, Friends, and Family,
We are about to participate in the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in Cottleville this weekend but we want to get the word our for our next event coming up on March 18th.
This next event is the 2017 Confluence Trash Bash put on by Greenway Network, LLC. , Missouri Stream Teams including the League of Watershed Guardians and sponsored by K-She 95, Missouri American Water and many more.
This is a grass-roots event that is volunteer driven and is such a great opportunity to give back! It’s great for the soul and perfect for families, individuals, businesses, and groups to get outside, revel in the crisp spring air and do some good for the environment by picking yards of trash out of our river banks. According to Kenneth V. Thomas III, a crew leader, seven-year veteran and co-founder of the League of Watershed Guardians there are over 5,000 teams with ~90,000 active volunteer members throughout the state.
The event starts with breakfast catered by St. Louis Bread Company at 8 am on Saturday, March 18th and ends at 1 pm. There will be bales of hay to sit on and a few scattered picnic tables but you are welcome to bring your own chairs and coolers if you like.
Step 1: Drive out to the iconic Old Chain of Rocks bridge and park on the Missouri side. The parking lot will be open. There will be huge dumpsters there for us to deposit all the trash and this year there will be separate recycling stations. (New!) Typically we pull one whole dumpster full of JUST TIRES out of the woods! I was stunned at the sight the first time I volunteered!
Step 2: Register! There will be a table where you can sign a waiver or you can print and sign one prior to arrival. They will have maps of different sites and if you are so inclined, and arrive early enough, you can choose an island site where they will row you out on the Mississippi River to an island to pick up trash. How many chances do you get to do something like that! Very cool!
Step 3: Do some good!
Dress first for the weather and also to get dirty! Old clothes, hiking boots, if you have them, gloves and hats etc.
Sign-in and free breakfast: 8:00-8:45
What to Bring:
- Hand Sanitizer
- Toilet Paper and/or Tissues (In case the Johnny on the Spot is out)
- Lunch if you like or we can all go somewhere afterward to eat.
